The Sand Creek History
Opened in 1989 by Eddie Krantz and Paul Engel with money won at the dog track (contrary to rumor, Nuggets coach Doug Moe was not one of the founders, although Moe did suggest one of the dogs that Paul bet on). The Sand Creek Lounge has become one of the longest operating saloons in Colorado. Keeping with its neighborhood dive bar ethos, the Creek has played host to a number of community activities like pool, darts, karaoke and trivia for most of its history. Under the continued ownership of the Engel family, the Sand Creek Lounge relishes its role in the Aurora community. It has hosted wakes, wedding receptions, birthdays, engagement parties and baby showers. The Creek, in keeping with its community spirit, is open 365 days a year and is welcoming to all.
